eep!! Hesperion XXI are coming to Oz!! I have been thinking it is Waay too long since I have been to live gigs of pretty much any description. giddyaunt  had a brochure. Ooh how exciting. Except...They are playing in Hamer Hall- yuck, yucky, yuck. I could cry, think I nearly did. I swore I would not spend any more money and time being wildly disappointed in the HORRIBLE accoustics of that NASTY place. Dead, dead dead sound. . I have seen His Gloriousness Andreas Scholl and the goddess Kirkby there. Note I correctly said SEEN. Not you may note heard. OH, I can't wait for the new recital hall to be finished! I sat at the Scholl gig with my hands cupped behind my ears and STILL couldn't hear. Weep.

So. Jordi Savall is doing a recital at melb uni somewhere. I am trying to get a ticket to that. Though I really want to hear Monserrat Figuras sing. I could pay my $91 but still not hear her sing so I shan't.


Update- more playing with the ticket site offered up a seat in the choir stalls. I weakened. The sound might still be bad but I REALLY want to see these people. So I pays my money and I takes my chance.

Kinda sad that they've chosen such an inadequate venue--still, having heard of this place, one assumes that it is "de rigeur" for travelling players. When is the recital?

Yeh- famous chamber/recital musician visiting melb = concert in Hamer Hall. (stamps feet, shakes fist and weeps).

And Hamer Hall's early music acoustics are acceptable (as opposed to unacceptable) so long as you sit absolutely centre-on to the stage. I discovered this when I went to see the The Consort of Musicke there years ago. X and I had seats that are value-for-money at the opera, but rather off to one side; we could hardly hear the lute at all and the singers' sound balance was ridiculous. We moved to some empty seats at interval, and, after that, enjoyed the concert.

So the trick is to make sure you see the seat diagram while booking.

Nov 25 Hamer Hall. It's with MusicaViva. The recital is Mon 24th, some chapel or other - Musica Viva site has the details. I have emailed for a place. I tried to book for the Hamer Hall but the rotten system was only giving me one option off to the side on the balcony. Don't want to go through that level of auditory disappointment again. like trying to listen through a blanket.

So did you book? I belatedly apologise for not trying to book together. It was strange- I had this fit of madness that I simply MUST see them. So I just booked, without checking if anyone else wanted to go. Never done that before, strange.

Oh what a nice idea, ta for thought. Trinity College Chapel, 7pm Mon 24th Nov. I have emailed for a place, maybe find out tomorrow if that works.

Hmm - not part of the Faculty, not sure what strings I have at Trinity.
