burgler in temporary residence

today I had rather a shock. I came home about 8:30pm to find an actual intruder in my house! Not fun. I got scared, panicked, shaky but mostly angry, yelled at him a lot and ushered him out of the house. He was quiet but a bit arrogant and left without fuss or violence. The only violence was my screaming. He seems to have stolen my camera but nothing else that I can identify so far . Also made a mess of some things, most ickily my underwear drawer-Eew, nasty.  The police have been, and the fingerprint police (without getting any fingerprints). More usefully [community profile] erudito and the wizard came over to help me calm down and detoxify the atmosphere.  I will go to bed soon, helps that I won't be able to keep my eyes open for much longer. Don't think I will go to work tomorrow, there is a bit of tidying up and defending the territory to be done. Maybe I can log on and meet the deadlines anyway. Whatever. Just as long as the horrid man does not come back. Apparently there have been lots of robberies in the street this week.

OW! how horrid for you! I am glad there were friends close by to help. It is always bad when thieves break in, but finding one there would be the worst! I hope you didn't have important photos on the camera so the only loss is money. (Loosing money is bad, but one can earn more)

Big hugs from me too. *sends cleansing vibes your way*

Ooh YUK! I have just gotten up because I was having a little freak out about being broken into tonight, for some reason. And then I read this! Yuk.

Gee you poor thing. Nasty man.

May you sleep tight and be safe and well.

I'm going to go hang my bells over my front window panel.

Yow, that's horrible! I'd definitely be staying home tomorrow if I were you.

Eww! How awful. I hope you still got some sleep and that you can reclaim your space quickly.

hugs

How completely horrid. You poor thing. I'm very, very glad you're ok. There really does seem to be a lot of bad kharma happening at the moment. Re: the underwear drawer - I'm sure he was just looking for jewellery as people tend to hide that there, but I suggest you wash everything - it will make you feel better. Love and hugs.

OMG!!! No Way!

How Brazen! I can't believe you just shooed him out the door! That's crazy!

Call me if you want company this evening, I have wine =)

(They say more crimes happen when the weather is hot...)

[identity profile] montjoye.livejournal.com 2007-12-07 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
umm. After it was done I wondered if I shouldn't have tried to lock him in and call the police pronto. Think that would have resulted in a deal more damage though. What's done is done. I didn't realise the guy was there until he was a couple metres away.

Company tonight would be good. J is coming over this afternoon but not sure how long she can stay. Maybe give me a call when you get home.

oh MsJoye, how horrid! my sympathies.

I've been broken into twice now (thrice if you count the garage full of lovely power tools) but catching the person in the act, what a freaky thing.

I think you did the right thing in letting him go. trying to contain him might have resulted in your property being damaged but then maybe *you* as well, if he got out.

and I reckon you were really brave.

Physical shock...

Sympathetic commiseration from Moocow. I am finding that the chemical aftereffects of shock can have a long tail. Basically it changes you body chemistry for several days while your body purges the adrenalin & other exciting hormones & neurotransmitters. So be gentle with yourself, and make others do so too.

I think we need to dub [livejournal.com profile] erudito St Erudito the Leaned-Upon. A girl couldn't have a better friend when she's in trouble.

Thankyou. and commiserations for your recent injury too. Bad luck. May it heal well. Be good and look after it. I broke the same bone in both feet but 12yrs apart. The one I took more care with gives me no trouble at all. The other has become a "weather bone".

Coming by a bit late as usual...

Yuck! My sympathies.

FWIW, your response was remarkably assertive and probably helped a great deal.

Glad to hear you're safe, if shaken.

Poor duck!
