Eurovision- with bonus Julia

In case you didn't know, Eurovision is on tonight, first night?? With.....bonus Julia Zamiro!!! Wonder if I would bother watching if lady J was not hosting? I'll give it a go anyway.

Addendum #1
Well the last song of the first semi final has just finished.
My vote goes to Armenia
-great sound, rather world music
-fantastic indigo ethniccy costumes, split up to here and down to there
-sexy barefoot dancing, not a stupid high heel, fluorescent colour or leather suit to be seen. Or stilts or a superhero cloak.

However, if it really is a song contest and not a wind blown choreographic spectacular- then the lady from Malta should win. Fabulous strong voice, completely solo on the stage. Wonderful.

Addendum #2
bonus- they are both in the final! yay.

Yep. They were both on my list for the finals.

My best of the night goes to Iceland.
And the worst was Bulgaria. They looked like they were costumed out of SCA hospit of 20 years ago.

I'll check back and compare notes again with you tomorrow...

Yay, I was thinking of you while watching. Iceland -was that the girl in long pale blue frock? They were good too. I'll miss it tonight-I'll be out at a concert. I mean to watch the final on Sunday though. I want to see the French song that they showed a bit of. Why do some countries get into the final automatically?

Well, Eurovision is actually the name of the broadcasting company. The competition is open to any country that subscribes to the content - which is why there are a heap of countries in there now that really aren't European.

The winner of last year's comp gets a free ride to the final, as does the four largest subscribers... ie the people with the biggest audience - UK, France, Spain and Germany. The organisers need them in the show so they can make the most money out of the telephone voting.

But of course none of the big four have a chance of winning anymore since most of the voting ends up being on political lines and there are a besquillion tiny eastern european countries voting for each other.... Which is why Terry Wogan quit last year.

I love Julia but I prefer the dry wit of Terry. Des Mangan came close but there were big complaints the year he did the commentary.
