It's going to be a suprisingly expensive month. I wrote about the tellie dying in a puff of smoke and it's subsequent replacement. Now my grumpy 17yr old washing machine has given up the ghost. It hasn't been leaving things very clean. I have noticed that it's cycles are a bit confused, doing spray rinse when it is supposed to be spinning dry for instance.

Then last Sunday I washed the big piece of coating wool I had just bought for Erudito. The fabric was too flat and stiff, wanted to puff it up and soften it. Well I managed that. It shed VAST amounts of lint. I really mean VAST. Below is a pic of some of it. In addition the lint filter was overflowing, there is plenty spread about the bathroom, garden and of course the inside of the washing machine.  It has probably choked up the pump or something.

It took much persuasion to get that load to drain and spin.
Today I thought I would try to see if a small load of blacks would wash properly. No such luck. I'm glad I went for a small load. The machine won't drain. I tried long enough to get hot electrical smell - from the straining pump I suppose. So a few dark clothes have be rinsed and squeezed out by hand, are covered in fluffy black lint and are dripping on the line. I really shouldn't have put my two new shirts in with that load eh?

So. I don't think it is worth trying to fix this old beast given it's other problems. So I have left it to try to drain by gravity and I need to go washing machine shopping. [livejournal.com profile] mrsbrown  do you still have that choice subscription?

Later I also need to try to get the dryer fixed. While I am at it, perhaps the old column heater too (that has been taking up space in the store room for years).

testing a cross post from dreamwidth. I have an account over there that I made ages ago but have done nothing with. So does this cross post work?

I am a bit conflicted about account names. I have been wishing that my LJ account name was less easily linked to me. So I made a new name on dreamwidth, "elegentry", which I love but then proceeded to upload all the old montjoye journal to it. Der. Then forgot about dreamwidth for ages so there is now a gap in the montjoye posts to it. Also I am enjoying being montjoye in another forum. Um, don't really know what I am trying to do with this.

OK the cross post worked. Do edit updates go over too? Is it sad that I am doing this on a Sat night?

I have spent most of my useful time today dealing with washing machines in one way or another. NOT what i had planned for today. Trying to make the old one work first, then figuring out which one I wanted to buy, then going and buying one. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow and the old one taken away. I will be sad to see the old one go. It was the first serious house thing I ever bought and has been my (mostly) faithful servant for 17yrs. We've been through a lot together- lived in lots of houses, and or laundries, dyed fabric, dyed the wall, washed countless loads of clothes and yardage.

I am joining the ranks of front loader owners. I am somewhat keen to give this a try but am trepidacious about it after using top loaders all my life. That wash cycle length is going to be seriously annoying. I shall have to keep reminding myself of the improvement in water efficiency. Also I am truly hoping that my clothes end up incrementally cleaner.

hmm, much of tomorrow will go to washing machine issues too I suppose. Don't know when it will be delivered and then it will need to be installed and tried out of course. Hopefully I will have chance to go see sjkasabi and co in the arvo. I MUST pack for the weeding trip.

Does anyone still have a top loader? want some washing powder?
