This sounds like no fun at all for the nice door installation man - but as he said, he wants to do normal things in the midst of all the BLAH and installing doors is his thing, so really, in a way, you're sort of helping him. And you can then have gorgeous doors to slavishly admire.

We shall have to have a sewing day at some point - I have suddenly got a yen to make all manner of things, starting with stuffed patchwork easter eggs so I can have an Easter tree, and dollies for all the little (and big) girls I know who don't have them and bags and bags and bags. Boy have I got a backlog!
